This Ford Excursion installation was designed and installed by Jim S. in 2004. The vehicle was delivered new by a Cleveland Brown NFL Player and the main requirement was to move the rear 2 rows of seats further back for real world leg room. That was accomplished utilizing all the factrory mounting locations ensuring safety and utilizing hardened steel.
Upon completion the project ballooned into new Katzkin leather (not our personal taste), suede headliner, 5.1 DVD audio sound, multiple monitors, adding digital gauges, more audio components, add digital gauges, get rid of every switch and hide in the center console, and to top it off, design and build a logic circuit to control the Western Diesel performance chip with a display.
Some of the highlights:
- the instrument cluster was rebuilt and redesigned to house the new Dakota Digital Gauges. Since the instrument cluster controlled the alternator, Jim redesigned the factory to be retained in the vehicle.
- The Western Diesel performance chip, was controlled via a knob which Jim thought was dumb so he redesigned it via a custom built logic circuit to control the performance chip. Instead of turning a dial that will always be in that position, even if you forget, it resets to factory when the vehicle is started. A press of the button will control the engine computer (ECU)to cycle through factory, economy, racing, and towing settings while displaying the selection on a matching gauge.
- Western Diesel ram air and ECU tune
- Dual batteries
- Dakota Digital dash board
- Phoenix Gold 5.1 audio system
- Alcantara Suede
- 4 10" Motorized flip down video screens with custom steel mounting frames
- All switches and knobs were moved to the center console
